The first thing that needs to be mentioned here is congratulations to each public school in our area for their outstanding accountability ratings that were released recently by the State Board of Education.
Included in all the celebratory announcements, Sebastopol Attendance Center garnered their first ever level A rating, while both the Union Public School District and the Newton County School District celebrated A ratings; the Newton Municipal School District maintained their B rating; and Lake High School scored a B rating.
A tip of the hat to all the students for all the hard work and pushing your schools to such great ratings. And to all the teachers and administrators, you guys and gals are the real rock stars in all of this. Thank you for all your outstanding work in leading these students to be their very best.
Seussical the Musical
If you’re looking to be entertained this weekend, look no further than The Roxy Theatre in Downtown Newton as the Newton Theatre Company presents “Seussical the Musical”. If you’re a fan of Dr. Seuss stories, enjoy lots of colors and cool music, and absolutely negatory on green eggs and ham, then you simply have to come see the show.
Now, I'm not an actor, but I’ve played one at the Roxy for three years (albeit poorly) and I’ve got to give you guys some inside information. The good folks at the Newton Theatre Company that work hard to bring these shows to life year after year, such as Jonathan, Julie, Mrs. Grace, Amanda, Mrs. Lynn, and countless others, are absolute professionals at putting these top-notch productions together and teaching the art of putting on a great show. And not only that, they’re good people who provide their skills and time at no cost….all in the name of providing the area with great performance arts.
And I’m just going to go on and say this because I tell everyone who will listen. If you’ve thought you’d like to give theater a shot, the next NTC production is the time to do it! There’s no better place to dip your toes into it and there’s always room for more to be involved. If your kids think they’d like to participate, that opportunity is coming because the NTC will announce auditions for the upcoming kids show soon after the final “Seussical” show. So, make sure you're following the Newton Theatre Company Facebook page so you'll get the latest information. I guarantee it will be a rewarding experience.
It's Fall, Y’all
With the arrival of the Autumn Equinox this past Sunday, it's officially Fall. And although it’s still pretty warm in the daytime, man does it feel good at night. And if cooler weather isn't enough to excite you, we also have the trifecta of fun holidays heading our way: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Can I get a whoop, whoop?
In October, I’d like to do some fun spooky stories from this area. I've heard a few tales about some places in this area, so I know they're out there. If anybody has a good one to share, feel free to shoot an email to my address that's listed below or give me a call at The Appeal office.
Just don’t make it too spooky. A man’s got to sleep at night.
