The annual “Chill Thrill” hosted at the old Ford’s ice cream building in Newton will begin Friday, Oct. 9.
The haunted house attraction will be open every Friday and Saturday night from 7 p.m.-midnight through the whole month of October.
Mike Harris, one of the facilitators of the attraction, said that this will be their fourth year hosting it. “It’s always a big hit with all of the local people,” said Harris. “But we see folks come from other areas, too. We’ve had people come from as far off as Grenada.”
Harris said that even with the COVID-19 restrictions, they expect to see a “good amount of people” show up.
In order to keep employees and guests safe, there will be safety precautions put in place.
All employees will be wearing masks. Because the employees won’t be reaching out and grabbing guests during the attraction, this will help limit the chance of spreading the virus.
Guests will be brought through the attraction in groups of four people and will be encouraged to wear masks.
The haunted house attraction will center around the history of the building as an old ice cream shop. The mysterious original owner of the building, Madam Zu Zu, will also be one of the elements within the haunted attraction.
The cost of Chill Thrill will be $10 per person.
Harris said that they are expecting a good turnout each weekend this Halloween season.
“We’re always trying to get the word out to make sure people know about the event,” said Harris. “Eventually, I’d like for us to be the No. 1 haunted house in the state.”
