The Newton County tennis team picked up three wins this past week to move above the .500 mark on the season.
Newton County won a pair of division games acing Kosciusko and Northeast Lauderdale both 7-0.
On Thursday, Newton County played a doubleheader at Mississippi College, losing 7-0 to Madison Central and beating Clinton 5-2.
Newton County improves to 10-9 on the season and was scheduled to host West Lauderdale on Monday for the division championship. Newton County will play in the Division 4-4A Tournament on Wednesday at Northeast Park.
County 7, Kosciusko 0
The Cougars had little trouble as they cruised to a shutout win, not losing a set in the match.
In singles, Cade Cooley won 6-1, 6-3 while Brenah Flint won 6-2, 6-2.
In boys doubles, Parker Chaney and Tate Baucum won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Donald Blake and Cole Tadlock won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls doubles, Emily Stewart and Josie Tullos won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Ava Espy and Marilyn Tullos won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Lee Hill and Maggie Bounds won 6-1, 6-1.
County 7, NE Lauderdale 0
The Cougars again cruised to a shutout win over the Trojans last week in district play.
In singles, Cade Cooley won 6-0, 6-0 while Brenah Flint won 6-3, 6-2 on the girls side.
