The Newton County Board of Trustees has given Superintendent J.O. Amis an “excellent” rating on its annual evaluation report.
The report was discussed by the board during an executive session at its meeting on March 8 in the middle school library. The board gave Amis a satisfactory rating on each standard including:
• Providing leadership to the board in implementing its vision, mission and goals.
• Assisting the board with continuous improvement.
• Implementing an organizational structure.
• Providing leadership in policy development and implementation.
• Meeting established requirements in developing and conducting board meetings.
• Providing leadership in personnel management.
• Providing financial management.
• Showing leadership to the board, staff and community relationships.
The board did not have any comments since there were no standards or indicators not met. It was signed by Board President Glenda Barrett and Amis.
In other business, the board:
• Approved financial statements.
• Agreed to advertise for bank bids. The advertisement is seen on this week’s legals page.
• Approved board policies section M.
• Accepted a $2,602.90 donation to the tennis program.
• Approved transfers according to policy and the consent agenda.
• Accepted the resignations of Alton Gibbs as bus driver effective March 12 and Jeri Lynn Crosby-Parish as teacher effective the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
• Approved the retirement of Beth Reeves effective May 28, and
• Hired Morgan Lyles as an elementary certified teacher and Jon Marie Bishop as middle school certified teacher, both for the 2021-2022 school year.
