The annual Hwy. 15 Yard Sale brought many shoppers to the Newton County area.
The four-day event sees vendors set up shop along Hwy. 15 to sell their merchandise.
Hwy. 15 Flea Market and the Newton County American Legion allowed individual vendors to come in and set up at each building.
Barry and Lamenda Mclemore set their booth up at the Newton County American Legion. They said that they had only participated one day during the event.
“We both have jobs so we could only be out here on Saturday.”
The pair said that they had an array of items available for purchase.
“We don’t have anything specific that we are wanting people to buy. We have some vintage items and a set of chairs that someone ,ugh the be interested in buying.”
Shelby Friend also set up a booth to sell items at the Newton County American Legion. Friend said that she would be participating in all four days of the sale.
“We’ll be out here until Sunday. We’ve seen quite a few people, but Thursday was our busiest day.”
When asked what type of items she had available for purchase Friend said, “A little bit of everything. We’ve got old street signs and some vintage signs.”
Individuals in the community also hosted their own yard sales, in hopes to attract shoppers coming through the county.
Some families in the community banded together and hosted yard sales. Jessica Burns, a Union local, said that her family and four others came together to participate in the event.
Burns said that they hosted their yard sale three of the four days and were up and ready to start selling by 5 a.m. each day.
Overall, the sale went well for most of the vendors and provided locals with something to look forward to in a troubling time.
