Newton County Academy Basketball: Lady Generals Win Two in Class 2A North State Tournament

The Newton County Academy girls basketball team get to play for another week.
The Lady Generals won two games in the Class 2A North State Tournament last week, beating Deer Creek 52-16 and Indianola 32-24. They then lost 55-28 to Central Holmes and 34-26 to Manchester in the Division II bracket.

Union - Quitman

The Yellowjacket defense kept Quitman’s offense in check in Friday’s 21-15 win. Union linebacker Jordan Smith led all defenders with 10.5 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one interception.

Before the season ever started, Union football coach Jordan Wren thought the Division 5-3A championship might come down to his Yellowjackets and Quitman.
The Yellowjackets overcame a 15-7 halftime deficit and used two fourth quarter scored to rally and take a 21-15 win over the homestanding Panthers.
