Newton County native Jason Gaines played the role the role of attorney Johnny Whitten during ABC’s Women of the Movement limited series. Here he conducts questioning during the episode “Mothers and Sons.” In this scene, the two mothers at the center of the Emmett Till murder, Carolyn Bryant and Mamie Till-Mobley, testify about his character in front of a packed courtroom. The episode aired on Thursday, and the entire series can be viewed on ABC’s website or on Hulu. |

Jason Gaines didn’t have any idea that he would be a part of something like ABC’s “Women of the Movement” when he was a student at East Central Community College.
Music was his passion growing up. The Decatur native was a percussionist in the Newton County High School band and then played percussion while he was in the ECCC band.
