The Newton Lady Tigers are one step away from another trip to the Big House.
The Lady Tigers picked up two double-digit wins last week as they hammered Mize 67-10 on Monday and then pounded Enterprise-Lincoln 46-29 on Friday.
The Newton girls improve to 19-10 on the season and will take on Heidelberg on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a shot to advance to the Class 2A semifinals at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Newton girls 67, Mize 10
The Lady Tigers dominated from the outset and rolled to a 57-point win over the Lady Bulldogs on Monday.
Newton led 18-6 at the end of the first and then outscored Mize 19-0 in the second to lead 37-6 at the half. Newton then outscore Mize 7-0 in the third and 23-4 in the fourth for the final margin.
Jamiya Jones led Newton with 27 points, five steals and four assists, while Akyrin Berry had 12 points and seven rebounds. Euniya Taylor had 10 points while Anniston Atkins had eight points and 10 rebounds. Jordyn Bolar also had seven points while Mariah Johnson pulled down seven rebounds.
Newton girls 46, Enterprise-Lincoln 29
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half and cruised to a 17-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets.
Newton started fast and led 15-6 at the end of the first and then outscored Enterprise 12-4 in the second and led 27-=10 at the half. Newton was able to maintain that margin as they outscored Enterprise 13-12 in the third while the Lady Yellowjackets took the fourth period 7-6.
Jamiya Jones and Euniya Taylor each had 15 points for the Lady Tigers while Jordyn Boler had seven points.
Heidelberg boys 76, Newton 37
The Tigers fell behind early as the Oilers dominated the first half and rolled to a 39-point win.
The Oilers jumped out to a 25-9 lead in the first half and then outscored Newton 23-12 in the second and led 48-21 at the half. Heidelberg continued to pour it on, outscoring newton 18-9 in the third to take a 66-30 lead into the fourth. The Oilers took the fourth period 10-7 for the final margin.
Kaden Robinson led Newton with 16 points while Desmond Stevens had 11 points.
