The high school tennis season kicked off this past week with Newton County and Union both bringing home a pair of wins.

Newton County
The Cougars kicked off the tennis season on Saturday with a pair of matches, beating Corinth 6-1 and Vancleave 7-0.
Against Corinth, County split the singles matches as Fisher Edwards lost 6-1, 6-0 on the boys side while Alissa Luke won 1-6,6-3, 10-5 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Drew Walker and Hayes Holliman won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Carson Davis and Langston Coleman won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Katie Lynn McDonald and Reese Thoms won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Abby Williams and Erin Tullons won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Caden Chaney and Ellie Russell won 6-0, 6-0 to finish out the win.
Against Vancleave, County cruised to a 7-0 win. In singles, Hayes Holliman won 6-0, 2-6, 10-7 on the boys side while Allisa Luke won 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 on the boys side. In boys doubles, Carson Davis and drew Walker won 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Langston Coleman and Fisher Edwards won 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Katie Lynne McDonald and Reese Thoms won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Abby Williams and Erin Tullos won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Caden Chaney and Ellie Russell won 6-1, 6-0.
Newton County will host Brandon on Tuesday and Northwest Rankin on Thursday. They will then play at the Jackson Doubles Tournament in Madison on Saturday.
Union
The Union tennis team got its season started with two wins last week, a 7-0 win over Southeast Lauderdale and a 4-3 win over Mize.
Against Union, Hannah Pullin won 6-0, 6-0 in girls singles while Ashton Wilcher won by forfeit in boys singles. In boys doubles, Cooper Capps and Jude Feasel won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Hayden Ferguson and Levi Ferguson won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Julia Harrison and Denver McCory won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Annley Howell and Caroline Manning won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Ethan Brasher and Rylee Pullin won 6-0, 6-0.
On Tuesday, Union played at Mize. In boys singles, Ethan Brasher won 6-0, 6-1 while Caroline Manning lost 6-0, 6-0 in girls singles. Union won both girls singles matches as Julia Harrison and Denver McCoy won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot and Annley Howell and Hannah Pullin won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In boys doubles, Cooper Capps and Levi Ferguson lost 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-2 at the No. 2 spot while Hayden Ferguson and Ashton Wilcher lost 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Jude Feasel and Rylee Pullin won 6-2, 6-2.
