The Newton County baseball team sent another team packing in the Class 4A playoffs.
The Cougars beat New Albany in two games, winning 5-1 on Saturday and 8-4 on Monday.
Newton County improves to 18-14 on the season and will face the winner of the West Lauderdale and Itawamba series for the North 4A championship series.

The Cougars used a big second inning and took a four-run win over the Bulldogs on Saturday in the opening game of the series.
Newton County High School Sophomore Braxton Dean took the mound for the Cougars in Round 3, Game 2 of the 4A Play-offs.
County scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning and then added one in the sixth while New Albany scored one run the fifth.
County had six hits in the contest, led by Cooper Johnson who was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Caleb Potter was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Hayden Amis also had a single while Camden Mangum scored two runs.
Ethan Burton started on the mound and pitched six solid innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.

The Cougars scored six run in its last two innings and took a four-run win over the Bulldogs on Monday.

New Albany scored two in the first while County answered with two in the third. County scored three in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead while New Albany answered with two in the top of the sixth. But the Cougars scored three more in the bottom of the sixth and set New Albany down in the top of the seventh to take the win.
County had nine hits in the contest as Hayden Amis was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Camden Thoms had a three-run home run while Landen Huber singled, scored twice and had two RBIs. Caleb Potter and Grant Keith each doubled while Cooper Johnson and each singled.
Braxton Dean started on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings to get the win and gave up two runs on six hits and struck out three. Brady Bounds pitched the last 2 2/3 innings and gave up two unearned run-on one hit and two walks while striking out three.
