American Legion Post 89 is inviting all veterans and their families to attend Monday as the Legion hosts a short ceremony recognizing Veterans Day.
Johnny Reeves, commanding officer of Post 89, said they kept waiting on word of Veterans Day events from the local municipalities, but nothing was scheduled. So, he said, Post 89 decided to hold their own event.
“It’s going to be at 10:45 a.m. down at the Legion Hut,” he said. “We’re going to have a couple guest speakers and play taps.”
Reeves said he, along with District 78 Representative Randy Rushing would be two of the speakers, and they planned to add a third. The ceremony, he said, won’t be anything elaborate, lasting 15-20 minutes, but the members of American Legion Post 89 wanted to make sure they did something to honor local veterans on Veterans Day.
Any veterans or family members of veterans are welcome to come out to the American Legion Hut, located on Highway 15, south of Decatur, to join Post 89 in honoring their country’s veterans.
