Update: Decatur Volunteer Fire Department was not able to get hamburger for this year's event. They will instead have pulled pork sandwiches from Cook's Bar B Que, hot dogs, nachos and Mr. Mike's Frozen Yogurt.
With Mississippi parks reopened for camping and recreation, Turkey Creek Water Park is moving forward with plans for its annual July 3 fireworks display.
Pam Engle, park manager for Turkey Creek, said this year’s pyrotechnics will launch at 9 p.m. sharp and all are invited to come watch the show, play games and grab a bite to eat.
Many of the vendors from previous years will return for this year’s show, including the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department.
“The fire department will be here with hamburgers, hotdogs and Mr. Mike’s Frozen Yogurt,” Engle said.
The National Guard also plans to return to Turkey Creek. Last year, Engle said, the National Guard brought bounce houses and games for kids, and while she hasn’t heard exactly what they plan this year, she expects it will be similar.
“I don’t know what they’ll have,” she said.
Also planned for July 3, Engle said the park will have booths set up for face painting and will be selling event t-shirts for $12 to mark the occasion.
Entry for the fireworks display costs $10 per vehicle. Residents wanting to view the show from the water are welcome to bring their boat, Engle said, which will cost an additional $10 as well a small boat launch fee.
This year, Engle said, the park gates will be closed at 8:30 p.m., so residents are encouraged to arrive early. For those looking to avoid the rush, she said the park will be open throughout the day.
“They can start arriving at 8 a.m. and spend the day in the park,” she said.
In addition to inviting people to attend the July 3 fireworks show, Engle said Turkey Creek is also looking for individuals, businesses and organizations to help sponsor the display. Three sponsorship levels are available at $250, $150 and $50-$75, she said.
At the $250 level, sponsors will have their name or logo printed on a 3-by-5 banner that will be hung in the park. They will also receive a mention on the event’s Facebook page and a free ticket to the show.
At the $150 level, sponsors will receive a 2-by-2 banner in the park and a mention on the event’s Facebook page.
Sponsorships between $50-$75 will receive a mention on the big event banners hung throughout Turkey Creek and a mention on the event’s Facebook page.
