Newton County musicians are taking steps to pass on their knowledge and love of music to future generations.
Larry Blackburn, a country gospel singer and guitar player, has joined with other musicians from the area to host a twice monthly Friday night Gospel Concert to share their music with the community and pass on their years of knowledge to the next generation.
In the conference room of the Newton County Veterans Administration office, located off Highway 15 in Decatur, the group gathers to play gospel, country and blues music for the community.
“We’re going to try to do this every second and fourth Friday night,” Blackburn said, “Just to give youngsters a chance to learn some old country gospel.”
Blackburn said any resident, visitor or passerby is welcome to stop by the concert to listen, and anyone who plays an instrument is welcome to join the ensemble.
