The Newton Police Department has made an arrest in an incident at the Chevron station on September 12 that injured a Neshoba County resident.
Police Chief Harvey Curry said Santonio Griffin, 19, turned himself into the police department September 26. The suspect was charged with attempted murder. As of Friday, the arraignment had not be held to set bond.
Curry said previously that the incident occurred when a group of people from Neshoba County got into an argument with a group from Newton County at the gas station late at night.
“They got into a fight down there,” he said in a September 25 story. “Some guys from Neshoba County and some guys from Newton County. Next thing you know they start shooting.”
Curry said Neshoba County resident Jalen Griffin was injured in the exchange and taken to the hospital.
