Newton High School’s Future Business Leaders of America became an official FBLA organization Thursday with an official chapter induction ceremony in the school auditorium.
Tiwari McLain, district librarian and sponsor for FBLA, inducted the club officers and members into the organization with the Pledge of Allegiance, national anthem and an explanation of the club’s mission.
“FBLA is designed to promote future business leaders,” she said. “It is fitting as we begin this new chapter, that we consider what these words mean for our organization.”
Swearing in the officers, McLain challenged them to take their responsibility seriously and to work hard to perform their duties.
“You have been selected because your members have faith in your ability and confidence that you will fulfill the duties of your office,” she said. “I challenge you to accept the responsibility that has been given to you.”
Superintendent Glenda Nickson said FBLA already has a list of activities planned, and she was excited to see what the chapter would accomplish at Newton High School.
“We are so excited tonight to start a new chapter for our students here at Newton Municipal High School,” she said. “This organization, and its chapter and sponsor, Ms. McLain, will have to have so many activities planned for our young people. I’m excited for what they’re going to do.”
Nickson said the district has high hopes and high expectations for the inaugural FBLA class. Yet, no matter how high Newton dreams its students will go, she said these students will go father.
“We have high expectations, and what ever we expect of them, I assure you they’re going to reach beyond what ever can ever imagine for our great students here,” she said.
