The Friends of CMRC board of directors are calling its inaugural pancake breakfast a success.
This is the first fundraiser for the organization, which supports the needs of clients who live on the Central Mississippi Residential Center campus. Program Director Donna Creekmore wanted to thank the community for their support despite it being spring break for most of the local area schools and as restrictions began to be in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“Friends of CMRC really appreciate the turnout and support of the community and the hard work and participation that our CMRC employees and Friends of CMRC board members put into making this event a success,” Creekmore said. “We prepared and sold over 500 plates. We hope this is something we can build on and grow into an event that the community will enjoy.”
The event was not only a fundraiser for the organization, but it also served as a community outreach to provide a way to interact with the public and to help educate the community about mental illness.
“We had a great time of fellowship and fun,” Creekmore said. “Once again we thank the all who support Friends of CMRC as we work together to help dispel the stigma associated with mental health concerns.”
Creekmore said they hope to bring back the pancake fundraiser again in the future.
