It’s time for spring cleaning in the City of Newton.
On Saturday, city officials are sponsoring a citywide cleanup to help improve the look of the largest community in Newton County.
Alderwoman Linda Wash, who has been one of the organizers of this year’s cleanup hopes numerous volunteers will come out at 9 a.m. Saturday at Newton City Hall to meet and divide into teams clean up the city. Although the cleanup has been rescheduled once before, Wash is hoping that predicted rain on Saturday will hold off long enough for the cleanup.
“We are encouraging everyone to come out and clean up our city,” Wash said. “It’s always important to keep Newton clean because there are always prospective businessowners and families visiting to see if they want to locate here. So we want to make a good impression on everyone who is visiting our city.”
Wash said anyone is welcome to join the cleanup effort Saturday. All volunteers have to do its come to city hall and join one of the teams that will be heading out across the city. Trash bags will be provided.
The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Following the completion of the cleanup, Wash said they will provide a hot dog lunch for volunteers.
“Let’s all get involved to help clean up our community,” Wash said. “It takes all residents to help keep our community clean. We hope you all come out, help us clean up the city and enjoy fellowship with your fellow citizens. We want our community to be a nice, neat, clean place for us to call home.”
For those who cannot make attend the event on Saturday, Wash encouraged residents to take a few minutes to pick up any trash around their homes along city streets and rights of way.
