Newton County residents only have a few more weeks to pay their property taxes as the Feb. 1 deadline inches closer.
May Bender, tax assessor for Newton County said she wanted to remind all residents to get their payments in before the end of the month.
“You can either mail your receipt in our you can come by my office,” she said.
The Tax Assessor’s Office, which is located on the first floor of the Newton County Courthouse, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Bender said she will be available to assist residents in paying their tax bill and answering any questions they may have.
Currently, she said, the Tax Assessor’s Office can accept cash, check or debit and credit cards. However, there is a fee for debit and credit cards that residents should be aware of.
“We’re working on online payments, but we don’t have that set up yet,” she said.
