Union Day is right around the corner, and Union Chamber of Commerce is calling on all businesses, clubs and organizations to get their vendor applications in quickly as space will rapidly fill up.
Suzanne Belk, owner of Union Mercantile and Chamber member, said applications have only been available a few days, and more than a dozen vendors have already signed up.
“I think we have around 15,” she said.
Vendors can purchase a 10-foot by 10-foot space along the street for the June 15 festival for $50, $55 with electricity, by picking up an application from Union Mercantile or by messaging the Chamber on Facebook, Belk said.
Additionally, Union Day will feature political speeches, where candidates for Newton County office will have $5 minutes to address the crowd. Belk said speakers will need to fill out an application as well, including the time they’d like to speak, office sought and district. The fee for political speakers is $25.
“If they have a booth, the fee is waived,” she said.
This year, Union Day is spaced out over a 3-day period, Belk said. It all kicks off with a Gospel Singing concert on the evening of Wednesday, June 12. Thursday, residents will have the chance to participate in the Union Day Beauty Pageant. The day prior to the festival, she said, residents will compete in a talent show, beginning at 7 p.m.
And, on Saturday, the 2019 Union Day festival will kick off with an opening ceremony at the Union Mini-park, Belk said. Planning for the day-long celebration is still ongoing, she said, but right now Union Day promises a car show, a parade, political speakers, food and gift vendors and a special concert by the Union High School band.
Belk said vendors and candidates are encouraged to get their applications filled out quickly to ensure space is available, and anyone interested in the talent show should keep an eye out for applications to become available.
