The Newton Theatre Company is looking for a Cat in the Hat, a Horton, and a Who or two; but who do they need? You, You, You!
This Fall, the NTC will present their adult musical Seussical: The Musical at The Roxy Theatre in Newton in September. The fantastic, magical musical, created by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, is a fun, musical caper that brings to life many of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters.
On July 14-16, the Newton Theatre Company will hold auditions for the 25 or more roles required to produce Seussical, and director Jonathan Thorne is looking for a great turnout to help bring the musical to life.
“This is our adult musical, so for auditions you need to be at least in sixth grade. It’s an ensemble-based musical and that means we would like a nice, big ensemble that includes all ages and sizes,” said Thorne. “We are making an exception for the role of Jojo, which requires a fourth or fifth grader for the part.”
Those who would like to audition will need to be prepared to sing a three minute or under showtune of your choice, as well as do a cold read of some parts. Auditions on July 14 will start at 2 p.m., while auditions on July 15-16 will begin at 6 p.m. Thorne added that they Newton Theatre Company invited those who have been in plays before, as well as those who would like to try it for the first time.
“If you’ve never been in a show before, this would be a great one to be in because there are lots of ensemble parts for you to blend in and be on stage with others as part of your first experience,” said Thorne.
