BASKETBALL: Newton teams sweep Lake in district games

Newton made the short trip to Lake on Friday night and came away with a pair of wins.

The Lady Tigers took a hard-fought 42-28 win over the Lady Hornets and the Tigers cruised to a 56-17 win over the Hornets.

Newton has two road games scheduled for this week as they will go to Scott Central on Tuesday and at Union on Friday.

BASKETBALL: Newton County splits with NE Jones, Quitman

Newton County got back in the win column with a sweep of Northeast Jones on Friday.

The Lady Cougars took a 46-40 win while the Cougars took a 66-59 win on Friday. On Tuesday, both teams lost at Quitman as the Lady Cougars fell 48-34 and the Cougars lost 84-45.

BASKETBALL: Tigers extend streak

Newton racks up two more wins each in district

As the Division 5-2A tournament draws near, the Newton basketball teams seem to be playing their best basketball.

The Lady Tigers stayed unbeaten in division play as they beat Scott Central 47-30 and Philadelphia 59-46.
