If you happen to be traveling down Decatur Street in Newton Sunday evening, keep an eye out for sheep, angels and a few wise men.
Newton United Methodist Church invites you to the 30th Anniversary of their Live Nativity Scene, where you can drive thru and witness the scenes of the very first Christmas.
The presentation is made up of 10 scenes and, as you can imagine, that requires a lot of people and animals to complete them. According to Abby Thames, who is in charge of characters, the entire presentation is made up of 100 volunteers, with up to 60 making up the characters, while the remaining work the kitchen and direct traffic. “Our volunteers are mostly church members and members families,” said Thames. “Every year they step up to volunteer and help show the true meaning of Christmas and we are so thankful for that.”
So, if you’re looking for a little Christmas fun, look to the sky for that star of wonder, star of night, star of royal beauty bright. And if you’re not three kings bearing gifts while traversing afar, the Live Nativity can be found at 600 Decatur Street at Newton United Methodist Church in Newton from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
