Graveside Services for Mr. Allen "Trashy" McElhenney were held at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 13, 2023 at Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery (Hwy 15). Rev. Mark Vincent officiated.
Mr. Allen "Trashy" McElhenney, age 72, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023.
Mr. Allen "Trashy" McElhenney served in the US Army National Guard from 1970-1976.
Allen was a trainman; after his many years of service, he retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad Company.
Once retired, he enjoyed cooking for benefits and large groups. He will be remembered as a good cook, a very unique individual, and friend.
During his last few weeks and days of his life, Allen began to realize the importance of Jesus and wanting to go to Heaven. He asked for preachers to come and tell him about Jesus. His health was deteriorating, but his spirit was becoming strong; he had peace that Heaven was waiting for him.
Allen "Trashy" McElhenney will be dearly missed.
Survivors include two nephews, Clay and Ricky Hammond and their families of Decatur; caretakers, Brian and Stephanie McDonald of Decatur and Randy Jenkins and Angela Reeves of Decatur and special roomate, Chris Warren of Union.
"Trashy" is survived by numerous friends.
Mr. McElhenney is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Legett McElhenney and one sister, Dorothy Jean Hammond.
Pallbearers were Randy Jenkins, Allen Moulds, Austin Kelly, Clay Hammond, Ricky Hammond, and Shane Wall.
Honorary Pallbearers were Eddie Stamper, Clark Milling, Mack Hollingsworth, and Todd Brown
