Betty Jean Croff Tanksley was born March 1, 1936, to the late Frank James and Bessie Mae Croff, in the Chunky Community of Newton County, Mississippi. She was born the fourth of sixteen children.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bessie and Lenora; three brothers, Billy Howard, Frank and James Croff; and one daughter, Brenda Brown.
At an early age, Betty Jean joined Truelight Missionary Baptist Church in Chunky, Mississippi.
She was a Home Care worker for many years. She loved to cook, sew and yard sales, but most of all she loved God, Church, family and friends.
She served as church clerk, choir member, nurse, usher and usher board.
She leaves behind her darling children that she cherished, four sons, Donald Ray (Jeannie) McClellan, Chester (Rose) Thomas, Darrin (Alisha) Thomas, and Timothy (Shelby) Croff; one daughter, Deborah (Larry) Lee, all from Mississippi; three brothers, Charles Croff of Newton, MS, Roy Lee (Linda) Croff of Michigan, Melvin (Sheila) Croff of Newton, MS; two sisters, Mary Ann (Charles) Davies of Arkansas and Jewel Lee Tingle of North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, friends and one special friend, Lavon Gray.
