Services for Mr. Hubert Lavelle Williams, Jr. were held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Hubert Lavelle Williams, Jr., loving father, grandfather, and uncle, was born November 7, 1942, and passed away August 16, 2025, in Alexandria, Louisiana. After suffering a fall at home, he was admitted to the hospital, placed in the Intensive Care Unit for several days and later developed pneumonia.
Lavelle Williams lived most of his life in the Sebastopol-Conehatta area. After graduating from Sebastopol High School, Lavelle attended East Central Junior College for one year. Knowing that he was about to be drafted, Lavelle and his best friend, Jimmy Amis, joined the Army together with the promise from the recruiter that they could stay together; however, this did not happen. Almost immediately, they were separated for training. Lavelle completed 2 years in the Army.
Following his time in the Army, Lavelle worked for the railroad in Illinois for 9 years, met and married Lucy Foley, and had one son, John Williams.
Almost all of Lavelle’s remaining career was spent working in the poultry industry. He built poultry houses and later went to work at Green Acres Poultry in Sebastopol where he advanced to a management position. Later he held a management position for Marshall Durbin Poultry in Philadelphia. Because of his superior knowledge in the poultry industry, Lavelle was hired by a poultry company in Saudi Arabia where he worked 5 years. Following his work in Saudi Arabia, Lavelle worked for a few years for Conagra Poultry in Colorado; however, he was forced into retirement because of a heart condition.
Upon returning home from Colorado, Lavelle worked for a short time for Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Leake County Sheriff’s office until age 72, but was unable to continue working because of his failing health.
During the last year, Lavelle lived with his son in Fort Polk, Louisiana. He will be missed by his family and many dear friends.
Survivors include his son, John Dean Williams of Fort Polk, LA; grandchildren, Amber Williams, John Williams and Isabella Williams; and brother, Johnny Williams (Carol) of Conehatta, MS.
Lavelle is predeceased by his parents, Hubert and Nellie Boykin Williams; sister and brother-in-law, Hedie Williams Eaves (Larry); and former wife, Lucy Ann Foley.
Pallbearers were Todd Williams, Trent Williams, J. O. Amis, Robby Thompson, John Williams and Terry Vance.
