Funeral services for Samuel Waddell Everett were held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10:00 am at Newton County Funeral Home - South. Dr. Randy Rich officiated. Masonic graveside rites followed in the Hickory Cemetery.
Mr. Everett was born Sunday, May 8, 1949 in Hickory. He was graduate of Hickory High School (1967) and furthered his education at East Central Junior College. He began his professional career at La-Z-Boy South, and had a longtime career as the maintenance man for Super Stop Car Wash in the east central Mississippi region. He was a member of Hickory Baptist Church and he was a current member of the Mellen Lodge #138 and a former member of the Hickory Masonic Lodge #343. Favorite past times were raising chickens, cows, and doing carpentry work. Mr. Everett enjoyed going places, spending time with his family whom he loved very much, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a generous man, specifically, the "dollar" man, whom he shared with many. Mr. Everett passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family at the age of 76.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Opal Lawson Everett; brothers, Pat Everett and Sandy Everett; sisters, Patricia Tate and Sandra Garvin.
Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Jackie Hollingsworth Everett; one son, Brian Everett (Lisa) and one daughter, Tanya Johannsen (Eric), all of Hickory; three grandchildren, Shelby Harris (Chris) of Decatur, Brandon Horn (Hannah) of Conehatta, and Ty Everett of Hickory; seven great grandchildren, Raylen Horn, Kendall Harris, Kristie Harris, Emmy Lou Harris, Everleigh Mae Horn, Elliott Harris and Riley "Gus" Horn; several nieces and nephews; and, Jake, Man's Best Friend also survives.
Pallbearers were Stan Williams, Mike Butler, Lowery McGee, Sidney Cook, Herbert Lee Harris and David Hollingsworth.
Honorary pallbearers were David Cleveland, Mack Hollingsworth, Raylen Horn and Ty Everett.
Visitation was on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Newton County Funeral Home – South, and on Friday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Newton County Funeral Home – South, 100 Old Hwy. 15 Loop, Newton, was in charge of arrangements.
