Union’s Andy Ogletree announced last week that he was turning pro after completing in the Master’s last week as an amateur.
Ogletree capped off an impressive amateur career last week when he tied for 34th at the Masters and was low amateur at the event. Ogletree got a spot in the Masters when won the 2019 U.S. Amateur.
“My amateur golf career was an absolute blast and last week at the Masters is the perfect way for it to end,” Ogletree was quoted as saying on PGATour.com. “I’ve had so much fun, met so many great people and have so many incredible memories, but it’s time for me to test my game at the next level, against the best of the best. The game has taken me to so many special places already. I cannot wait to see where it will take me in the future.”
Ogletree finished his amateur career ranked No. 4 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He was an All-American in 2019 and 2020 while playing for Georgia Tech.
Ogletree capped off his amateur career by fulfilling one of his childhood dreams when he got to play with defending Masters’ champion Tiger Woods in the first two days of the tournament.
According to the story on PGATour.com, Ogletree will play Titleist equipment and wear Peter Millar clothing as he begins his professional career. Earlier this year, Ogletree also got to play in the U.S. Open but failed to make the cut in that event. He was scheduled to play in The British Open but that event was cancelled.
Ogletree is also expected to sign with Dancing Rabbit as a sponsor as well. A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at Dancing Rabbit to announce the agreement. Look in next week’s Newton County Appeal for more information.
