It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. This past week, the temperatures felt like we skipped over fall and went straight to winter with temperatures staying in the 40s and 50s for several days.
It’s time to turn our attention toward Christmas to celebrate the birth of our Savior. And there are plenty of ways to get in the Christmas spirit over the next 10 days.
It all starts Thursday, when the City of Union will host a tree lighting ceremony. This is open to everyone in the community, and it is a service project of some local Girl Souts.
It’s a great idea. I know it seems a little early as we’re not even to Thanksgiving yet, but I really think it’s a great idea because there’s already so much going on after Thanksgiving that there’s no way to fit something new into the schedule.
Then on Thanksgiving Day, the Union Piggly Wiggly has a Thanksgiving dinner for those in the community who may not be able to have a Thanksgiving meal. If you or someone you know needs a meal this Thanksgiving, call James at the Piggly Wiggly so you can be on the list.
On Black Friday, local businesses will be open for sales. Please do your part and support local.
Then on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, don’t forget about the Kansas City Southern train making a visit to Newton. It’s a great event, and I think everyone will enjoy it.
After that, all of the local parades will begin to happen. Read more about those festivities next week in the Appeal.
Warrior Wonderland will kick off at ECCC the next weekend after the Decatur Christmas Parade. Man, there’s just so much going on. If you’re not in the Christmas spirit by the first of December, I don’t know if you will. Join us in helping kick off the season.
