This week, the Union Chamber of Commerce will be honoring two pillars of its community, Robert Carleton and Gail Long.
Long will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Carleton will receive the Citizen of the Year Award.
Gail owns and operates Long’s Building Supply, a home supply store her husband started before his death.
She is one biggest supporters of Union around. She has raised three children, all of whom are proud graduates of Union Public School District. And she continues to support the schools and community endeavors.
Carleton comes from a family that has been a part of the Union business community since 1935. He owns The Carleton Group accounting and tax services, Carleton Realty, Mosquito Joe, Union Tobacco convenience store, Spanky’s Storage and a couple of ice vending machines.
Robert is a very active member of the community and has learned the value of treating people the right way, something he learned from his uncle.
Both Robert and Gail are outstanding members of the community and are very deserving of these honors. I hope that you will get the opportunity over the next few weeks to congratulate them. You can do that Saturday night during the chamber awards banquet at Union First Baptist’s fellowship hall, or you can just stop by and shake their hands or hug their necks and tell them how much they mean to you in our community.
If you can this weekend, come out to the banquet. It is sponsored by State Farm of Union, Mississippi Power, Marshall Ford and Laird Hospital. Tickets are $20 are available at State Farm of Union, Union supply and Piggly Wiggly Of Union or from board members. For more information, call the chamber at 601-774-9586.
