Someone suggested to me that I should write something about Nancy Pelosi this week.
I wouldn’t normally respond to a request like this, but I figured this last week, there might be a chance I could write something about her.
Last week, Fox News first showed surveillance camera footage that showed Nancy Pelosi going to a hair stylist for a “blowout.” The footage also showed that Pelosi was not wearing a mask.
Business Insider reported that Pelosi said she was under the impression that San Francisco’s beauty shops were allowed to do one-on-one appointments indoors.
However, only outdoor appointments were allowed under the city's current coronavirus guidelines. Thus, Pelosi was in violation of San Francisco ordinance
In the days and weeks after the coronavirus pandemic response began, doing the simple things like getting a haircut or visiting the beauty salon have become difficult. In fact, I have not yet visited the barbershop since the first restrictions went in place, and it shows.
After nearly six months without a haircut, I am beginning to sport a COVID-19 mullet. My sideburns are way too bushy-tailed.
Some folks have told me that they really like the look of me growing my hair out. Maybe they were being serious, or maybe they were just trying to be nice.
That being said, I understand why you might try to sneak in a visit to the hair salon, especially if you are in a position like Pelosi. She is in the public spotlight, and she needs to look her best when on camera.
The leaked footage reeks of a setup. I know the owner has denied it.
Talking with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Erica Kious, the eSalonSF owner, said that was "absolutely false.”
“Her assistant had made the appointment, so the appointment was already booked, so there was no way I could have set that up,” Kious said.
Whether it was a set up doesn’t matter. Pelosi’s people should have known better. In this climate, she should tried to arrange an outdoor session at a private residence. Even if there was no risk of transmission of COVID-19, the look of this situation can be potentially devastating in political circles.
Just make sure you know what the law is before you get your hair done. Even if others can get away with it, don’t expect anyone to protect you but yourself.
