It’s time for me to go shopping.
As most of you are putting the finishing touches on your Christmas shopping, I’m just beginning the process. One week away from the big day and I have the entire list to fill.
Yes, I am one of those last-minute Christmas shoppers. I guess I don’t ever make the time before I absolutely have to go Christmas shopping. This year, there hasn’t been a lot of extra time for shopping. This year’s Christmas season was especially compressed. There is one fewer weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I’m open for a few ideas, but I have already run across a few good ideas from others this Christmas season.
We have a number of great shops to find gifts, and they don’t have to be that expensive.
We have several really nice flea markets in our community. The vendors in those markets have unique gift ideas that you won’t find anywhere. I bought a gift for my mom, when I found an vinyl record of an artist she really enjoys to listen to.
Whether that’s at Hickory Pick’N or the Hwy. 15 Flea Market or other markets around the county, I’m sure they might have a perfect gift for you.
Take time to visit all of the shops in Newton, Union, Decatur and all over the county. You can find something there you probably can’t buy on Amazon or at the mall.
I will also put a shameless plug in for The Newton County Appeal. Give the gift that keeps on giving throughout the year with a subscription to your hometown newspaper. For this one, you don’t even have to leave the comforts of your home. Just sign up at www.newtoncountyappeal.com and set it up for your friend. Please make sure that you include your loved one’s address so we can get it set up. If you have any trouble, please email me.
One other option is making donations in honor of relatives. Maybe that relative has everything they need. So maybe find a charity that your loved one is passionate about and give a donation in their honor this holiday season. It’s a way to give a gift that will impact our world long after the Christmas season ends.
I’ll be honest, the best gifts I’ve received weren’t always the most expensive gifts I’ve ever received. It’s the simple gifts that show that you know me.
“'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
“Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
“And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.”
Merry Christmas and remember the reason for the season!
