The final days of March were unkind to Newton County, as we lost two great men in our area.
I first heard about Frankie Jordan’s passing as we were finishing up our paper last week. It was too late to do something to honor him, but I’m glad I got a chance to tell his story this week.
Frankie was one of the go-getters in our community. He could get things done and he helped make Union a better place. He did everything he could until his health prevented him from being as involved as he wanted to be. He was a good business man and family man. He will be missed for sure.
The second was a legend in East Central Mississippi. That is Ovid Vickers. He was a professor, speaker, writer, editor and could do just about anything he wanted to do. He was beloved at East Central Community College and all around the area.
I’m so glad that his friends talked him into writing two books. His stories, which were good no matter how many times you heard them, are recorded so that we won’t lose them.
Mr. Vickers, thank you for being such a wonderful influence in our lives.
Both of these men cannot be replaced. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families.
