Christmas is today, and the new year is just a few days away. The holiday season is a time for giving, and I hope that you have found ways to do that this year.
I know many of you participated in toy drives, whether it was Toys for Tots, the Newton Chamber’s Angel Tree through the Salvation Army or perhaps one done through your church. Maybe you are helping out your neighbor who’s having a tough time.
I applaud you if you have done that or are planning to do that. If you haven’t been asked to make a donation or contribute to a worthwhile cause, then I ask you to consider doing that.
We have several great places to give here in Newton County.
The United Givers Fund has been a round a long time in Newton County, but there may be some that don’t know what it is. The organization holds annual fundraisers for the more than 30 charities and community organizations it supports. Some of these organizations include the high school music and athletic organizations. Donations are made to each local fire department in Newton County.
You can also contribute to local education foundations. Union just started the Yellowjacket Nation Foundation. And I think East Central Community College has its own organization to give.
Friends of CMRC helps provide for the needs of residents at Central Mississippi Residential Center. This also includes trips and other outings that they will do throughout the year.
There are so many options of where to give. I hope that you will think about it, pray about it or meditate on it this holiday season.
If you don’t donate to one of the places I mentioned, I hope you will consider giving back to an organization you are familiar with and trust.
Spread some holiday cheer. It’s win-win. It helps those charities do their mission, and it gives you a good feeling, too.
