This past Thursday, we celebrated the National Day of Prayer. I’d like to thank Randy Cuchens for organizing the Newton observance, which we were glad to share live via our social media feed.
If you missed it you can go back and watch it anytime on our website.
During the ceremony, we had several local leaders praying for key parts of our country. From our government, schools, families, churches, military, businesses and even the media (thank you for remembering us).
This year, Newton added a prayer for the coronavirus situation. During that time, prayers were said for our healthcare workers, first responders, leaders and those who are dealing with it firsthand, whether they have it themselves or they are caring for loved ones.
Unfortunately, we suffered our first COVID-19 death. We pray for the family of Tommy Nichols. He will be missed, as he was a great leader and friend of Hickory.
As we begin to reopen our businesses and economy, we are unfortunately putting ourselves at greater risk. I do want our economy to reopen, and I want us to be back to normal, but we have to be especially careful. As much as I don’t want to wear a mask in public, I may have to start doing that so that we can reopen the economy while keeping us safe. Keep up the social distancing, and as much as you want to shake hands, avoid it for now.
As we venture back out into public, let us pray and do our part to protect each other.
