Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I’ve noticed people sharing their thoughts about what they are thankful for, and I thought it might be a great opportunity to share a few things for which I’m thankful.
• I’m thankful for Newton County and the people here. You have welcomed me with open arms when I came here back in 2015. You are great people, and I’m privileged to call many of you my friends.
• I’m thankful for our country as flawed as it is. One of the greatest freedoms we are afforded in our country is the right to free speech. In many countries, you can be jailed for speaking something that is contrary to leaders. That to me is one of our foundational freedoms, and one that truly sets our nation apart from any other nation in the world. It comes with its price, you open yourself to public scrutiny, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
• I’m thankful for our farmers and agriculture producers. Without you, we wouldn’t have food on our table each day of the week.
• I’m thankful for our teachers and educators here in Newton County. I think we have some of the best teachers around right here. Sure, there are always things we can improve on, but I think Newton County has a solid foundation in education, and one that is improving with each year.
• I’m thankful to you, our community, our subscribers and our advertisers. Without you, we couldn’t do what we do. I know sometimes I might say this is my newspaper, but the truth is, it’s really yours not mine. You are the ones who help us by submitting stories, feedback, news tips, photos, and you are the ones who pick up the paper each week and read them. There is no way I can thank you enough for your support.
