Brent Maze
Over the last two years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Thomas Howard here at The Newton County Appeal.
Not every day has been easy. We’ve had some long days, long weekends and a few times where we probably almost wanted to scream at each other. (A lot of that is from mistakes that I’ve made over the years.)
I’m glad that I had the chance to work with you. Newton County has undergone a lot of changes over the last two years. Some of them have been good changes. I think we have seen a lot of growth from the community from a social standpoint. I think overall, we are a much better community that we were two years ago.
From an economic standpoint, it’s been a mixed bag. We’ve seen expansion at some places while others have undergone significant layoffs.
We saw one of the worst pandemics this year. We have unfortunately lost close friends over the last two years. We have had to deal with water getting in the office at Union.
But Thomas, you have always been willing to put your thoughts and feelings out there. Sometimes, they have been well-received. Other times, it wasn’t or either very badly misunderstood.
I know some love you. Others not so much, but you have earned the respect of Newton County and our community.
We appreciate everything you have done to support Newton County and journalism in our community. I wish you the best in your new venture. I hope many of you will take the time this week before he leaves to express your gratitude to him.
I do appreciate you and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
