The Loose Caboose Festival is coming. It’s hard to believe that it’s only 10 days away.
As the president of the Newto
n Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors for this year, I would love to invite you to come out and celebrate the 15th annual celebration with us.
The festival is one of the biggest events in Newton County each year, and this year is no different. Instead of everything being on Saturday, we decided to start the party a little early this year on Friday. Our Friday night band from two years ago is back. Doctor Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster will be playing on Friday, March 30 from 6 to 10 p.m. in the parking lot of the historic depot. I think even some of our restaurants will be in downtown Newton to be food vendors that night.
So bring your lawn chairs and kick back to enjoy the entertainment. Hey, you might even want to get up and dance to your favorite song.
The main event kicks off early in the morning on Saturday, March 31. The Loose Caboose 5k and 2-mile Fun Run will be held around 8 a.m. followed by the opening ceremonies and patriotic tribute at 9 a.m.
At that time, the booths will open for business, and from that time until about 4 p.m. on Saturday, Main Street, Church Street and all of the surrounding streets of downtown Newton will be hopping with activity.
There will be arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, political speakers for the Third Congressional District, music featuring local artists, entertainment including dancing groups, a car show, monster truck rides, inflatables and so much more.
There literally is something for everyone at this year’s festival. Please see Page 3A for a complete list of everything going on next week. It’s going to be a great week, and I hope that many of you will be able to come out next weekend and celebrate.
