If you purchased your newspaper at a newsstand this morning, you might have noticed a slight increase to our single copy price.
Yes, as of today, the Newton County Appeal’s weekly price is $1.00. It is a decision that was difficult for us to make, but unfortunately, it was something we had to do to keep up with the cost of doing business.
There’s always been a saying that a newspaper should cost about the price of a cup of coffee. One major national chain offers a cup of coffee at $1. If you get that same cup of coffee at a sit-down restaurant, you’re likely going to pay more than $1 and could be as much as $2 or $2.50.
So, I think the new price is in line with that observation.
While our newsstand price has changed, our subscription prices are still the same. In-county subscriptions are still $30, and senior citizens get $5 off the regular price.
So, if you choose to subscribe to the Newton County Appeal, you can have your newspaper delivered to your house at a 42 percent discount for inside Newton County. And you also receive a free online subscription so that you can view the entire paper online from your computer or mobile device.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we make this change. One thing that will not change is our commitment to Newton County and to publishing the stories that you want to read about from our county and surrounding areas.
Our goal is not to be your source of national, international, celebrity or political news. You can get that from anywhere, but you can’t find Newton County news in the New York Times or Fox News unless it’s something major.
Sure, you can read about a lot on social media, but there’s still something special about your hometown newspaper. We’ve been here for nearly 119 years in Newton County, and we plan to be here for that many or more.
I thank you for being so loyal to your hometown newspaper. If you ever need to contact us for anything, please give us a call at 601-774-9433 or please feel free to reach out to me at the email below.
