It took a while for Union Public Schools to find its man to be the permanent superintendent of the very successful district. When they did, they didn’t have to go far to find him.
Sunday was the official star
t date for new Union Public School Superintendent Tyler Hansford. Tyler is no stranger to anyone in Union.
He’s a native of Union and a graduate of Union High. He’s been the principal at Union Middle School, and it just seems natural for him to take on this new role.
He’s likely one of the youngest school superintendents in the state. He has yet to reach his 30th birthday. That’s amazing to me, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit.
Tyler has been a great representative of Union Middle and the school district. He has had some innovative ideas, and I can’t wait to see what he unveils for the entire district.
One of the biggest challenges that Union and all school districts face is the possibility of future budget cuts. While the economy is improving in many areas, it has yet to positively impact the state’s tax coffers. Some of that is due to tax cuts passed by the legislature. Some of it is just due to reality not matching the projections by state budget analysts. We will need some innovation to deal with these harsh realities.
And while I hate that teachers are given grades based on state exam scores, testing data is name of the game right now. That means you have to stay on top of it, notice trends and develop strategies to help children succeed.
I look forward to working with you, Tyler. Best wishes!
