Inside today’s edition of the Newton County Appeal, you have the chance to read the new, comprehensive animal control ordinance passed by the Newton Board of Aldermen.
This is something the city has been working on for months, maybe even years. Over the last few years, dog and animal complaints have been a constant issue at the board of aldermen meetings.
As the city prepares for growth, Newton needed some tougher regulations for animals in town. The old ordinance just didn’t give residents or the police much of a recourse to deal with vicious dogs or nuisance animals.
This new ordinance is comprehensive, possibly a little too much for what Newton needs right now, but in a few years, it may be exactly what the city needs.
One thing is for sure. It’s much better than what was in place.
We encourage you to take some time and read through the comprehensive ordinance on Page 5B of today’s edition. If you like it or don’t like it, please let the city know about it. Write a letter to the editor talking about what you like and don’t like.
