Local school districts have done a great job making the most of a very challenging situation.
The coronavirus situation forced schools to shut down for the remainder of the school year, but school isn’t out just yet. Teachers and administrators have had to dive into the distance learning way of life.
In the past, we said distance learning was allowing students to take classes at school they wouldn’t normally be able to get here in Newton County. Now, distance learning is the norm. Over the past month, teachers have held class using videoconferencing. Others have been posting videos for their students to watch each day. More have been communicating via email and social media by sending assignments and responding to questions. Schools have asked students and teachers to share photos of how they’re doing school, and it’s great to see how everyone is embracing this.
Doing e-learning was likely on each district’s strategic plan. Instead of trying to wade in, they dove in and are learning how to swim in this new way of having school.
