I am honored that the opportunity to serve as Mayor of the City of Newton is finally within reach. Having worked for the city for 30 years in various roles—including Parks & Recreation Director, Interim Public Works Director, Animal Control Officer, Public Works Administrator, and City Manager—I have gained extensive firsthand knowledge of how our city operates. In many instances, I have held multiple positions at once, giving me a well-rounded perspective on city management.
My experience makes me the clear choice for Mayor. While the position has traditionally been considered part-time, I plan to continue what I have done for the past three decades—working every single day as if it were a full-time commitment. When emergencies arise, I will be there alongside our dedicated city employees, leading or assisting in any way necessary. I have extensive experience navigating our city through natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and ice storms, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
As Mayor, I will focus on four key priorities:
•Public Safety – Our citizens deserve to live in a safe, small-town environment without fear. I will ensure that our police and fire departments are fully staffed with qualified professionals who maintain strong, positive relationships with the community.
•City Finances – The City of Newton has operated with a deficit in the general fund for years. When I became City Manager, I implemented a financial plan to not only eliminate the deficit but also create a surplus for long-term stability. As Mayor, I will continue strengthening our financial foundation to secure the future for taxpayers.
•Infrastructure – Improving our water, sewer, and street systems is a continuous effort, and I will work to secure the necessary funding to make lasting improvements. Achieving this goal is directly tied to strengthening our financial position, and I have a plan in place to ensure steady progress.
•Economic Development – I will work to attract new businesses and industries that generate revenue and create jobs for our citizens. Additionally, I have a plan to revitalize our downtown area through recreation-based initiatives, bringing more visitors and economic activity to our community.
In closing, I will be the most visible Mayor Newton has seen in the past 30 years—actively leading daily operations to ensure our citizens receive the services and support they deserve.
