2019 is an election year for many county and state offices, and candidates are already throwing their names in the hat for consideration. Across the state, county supervisors, chancery clerks, coroners, circuit clerks and tax assessors will be launching campaigns to win the votes of local residents. At the state level, things are heating up as both the governor and lieutenant governor positions, as well as secretary of state, attorney general and state treasurer, come up for elections as well.
In Newton County, candidates can qualify by visiting the Circuit Clerk’s Office to pick up the proper paperwork. The deadline to qualify is March 1. However, some candidates have already put their names down for consideration.
