| Q: What is your primary motivation for running for public office? |
Q: What is your primary motivation for running for public office? |
| A: I believe the people of Beat 5 deserve the best roads that an elected supervisor can provide. First of all to be able to get to church safely on Sundays; to be able to get to work on Monday; and for their children to got o school each day on the safest roads possible. |
A: Running for the office of Supervisor Newton County will allow me to improve the quality of roadways and be a representative for all the people of Beat 5. |
| Q: What do you hope to accomplish if elected? |
Q: What do you hope to accomplish if elected? |
| A: If elected, my primary concern would be to maintain and improve the 156 miles of roads (paved and dirt) in Beat 5. Also, be a full-time supervisor to all the 4,271 citizens of Beat 5. |
A: As supervisor, I will improve the quality of the roads, work to secure federal funding for local roadways and manage funds for all budget items necessary to maintain and improve the roads in Beat 5. |
| Q: What do you believe most qualifies you for this office? |
Q: What do you believe most qualifies you for this office? |
| A: I graduated from Decatur High School in 1966, East Central Junior College in 1968 and earned a degree in industrial technology/industrial management from the University of Southern Miss., in 1970. As a retired military officer and pilot with 34 ½ years of service, I have served in many supervisory positions, managed budgets and personnel and have extensive experience maintaining and operating heavy equipment. |
A: I have operated the Napa Auto Parts store in Newton, Miss., for over 30 years. Also, I have served on the board of aldermen for the town of Chunky for 23 years. These experiences have provided me with the knowledge to identify obstacles, to create a path for solutions and to execute those solutions in a timely manner within budget. |
| Q: From the perspective of the office you are seeking, what is the single most important issue facing your position in Newton County? |
Q: From the perspective of the office you are seeking, what is the single most important issue facing your position in Newton County? |
| A: As an elected supervisor, my first concern would be maintaining safe roads and bridges for the citizens of Beat 5. The position also requires that you do this to the best of your ability by managing personnel and equipment on an annual budget of $364,198 for District 5. |
A: The greatest responsibility of this office is to secure proper funding to improve the public safety for the people of Beat 5. I look forward to finding ways to provide a better and safer community. |
|
Q: What role do you see the office you are seeking playing in the lives of Newton County residents? If elected, how would you fulfill that role to provide the best possible service?
A: I believe that a supervisor is also responsible to all the citizens of Newton County by working with the other four supervisors in the county. Planning for and setting the annual budget for the county, which involves funding overall general administration, elections, education, law enforcement and courts, health and welfare, taxation, fire protection, maintaining county offices and buildings, intergovernmental relations (state and federal), are jus a short list of county supervisors powers, duties and responsibilities. But being in the position of a county supervisor also requires that he has all the county citizens interest as a priority by promoting economic, industrial, agricultural and community development to improve the lives and well being of every citizen. I will be a full-time supervisor for Beat 5 and Newton County!

Q: What role do you see the office you are seeking playing in the lives of Newton County residents? If elected, how would you fulfill that role to provide the best possible service?
A: I plan to provide quality roads to improve transportation, as well as put the necessary personnel in place to maintain the deteriorating roads of Beat 5. I plan to manage the tax dollars and the state and federal funding for the maintenance of roads and bridges so we can return them to the quality of roads the people of Newton County deserve.
