The Hickory Police Department has arrested three children ranging in ages from 12 to 17 years old in connection with a weekend vandalism.
Hickory Police Chief Mark Spence said the department received the call early Monday morning after workers at Bar Farm Products on Hwy. 80 found that several buildings and a truck had been spray painted with graffiti, including obscenities and other inappropriate words and symbols.
“They found the cans of spray paint on the property and used them to spray paint the buildings,” Spence said. “They probably did about $1,000 to $2,000 in damage.”
What tipped police off was a name that was spray painted on the building. Spence said that person who was named on the building wasn’t involved in the incident, but they were able to start from there and eventually locate the suspects who law enforcement believe did the crime.
“From there, we were able to connect the dots and then eventually interviewed the suspects with their parents,” Spence said.
Spence said he could not release the names of the suspects, as their charges will likely be remanded to youth court.
