A Newton County man is in jail facing multiple charges for drugs and dog stealing.
Sterling Walker, 40, was arrested Sunday, Dec. 15, and charged with felony dog stealing, felony possession of methamphetamine, domestic violence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Interim sheriff Joedy Pennington said deputies executed a search warrant for drugs Sunday at Walker’s Shiloh Church Road residence, uncovering drugs and the stolen dog.
“They ran a search warrant on him for drugs, and they already had a warrant on him for dog stealing,” he said. “The dog was in the house.”
Pennington said he did not know the exact details of the dog stealing charge, but he believed the dog belonged to an ex-girlfriend of Walker’s.
“I think it was an ex-girlfriend’s,” he said. “He went and stole it.”
As for the dog being in Walker’s home when deputies arrived, Pennington said, “It was his bad luck day, I guess.”
