The Newton County School District Board of Trustees approved hiring several employees at its April board meeting.
The board approved the following hires at its meeting April 14: Jennifer Lynn Crossley (seventh grade), Madalyn MacMahon (science teacher/fastpitch assistant coach), Rebecca Cox, Madison Mann, Jennifer Tune and Renee White at the career center.
The board also approved the resignation of Todd Carr, middle school science teacher.
Superintendent J.O. Amis also announced that the school district’s offices reopened April 21 on an 8 a.m. to noon weekday schedule.
The school district’s financial report was given. It’s February revenues were about 59 percent of budget, and expenses were around 57 percent of budget.
The district’s claims docket was approved unanimously.
Student transfers were approved or rejected according to school policy.
The school district also chose to reject a $130,000 per year bid from MOPS Cleaning Services to clean the school district’s buildings and will take proposals to be considered at a future meeting.
A donation of $116 was approved for archery supplies.
Amis also discussed with the board possibilities for doing a virtual graduation and virtual awards days.
