Three men from Atlanta, Ga., are facing charges of stealing more than $12,000 in merchandise from the AT&T store in Newton earlier this month, all of which was recovered shorty after the theft occurred.
On Feb. 10, Police Chief Randy Patrick said Rodricus Jackson, 27; Levan Timmons, 27; and Corey Daniels, 34, were arrested and charged with burglary of commercial building. Jackson and Timmons were also charged with possession of burglary tools.
They were issued a $50,000 bond each by municipal judge Jason Mangum.
Patrick said surveillance video from Mike’s Frozen Yogurt showed the suspects circling the building several times between 1 and 4 a.m. on Feb. 10 before they allegedly gained entry to the AT&T store on the back side of the building.
“They were traveling through Newton County on the interstate,” Patrick said. “We don’t know why they decided to stop here.”
Patrick said the suspects broke into the secure area where the cell phones were located and took nearly $12,000 in merchandise. Once those phones left that secure area, however, a tracking device activated, alerting authorities where the suspects were.
The suspects were caught by the Meridian Police Department, where they recovered all of the stolen goods and $5,000 cash.
“I’d like to thank the hard work of the Newton Police Department and the Meridian Police Department,” Patrick said. “Through great cooperation between the departments, we were able to catch these suspects and recover all of the stolen goods.”
