Newton County Board of Supervisors met in a special called meeting Tuesday to appoint new management of the county’s emergency management and 911 programs after EMA director Brian Taylor announced he would be resigning February 21.
Chancery Clerk George Hayes said the board unanimously voted to appoint Robbie Richardson as Newton County Emergency Management director and Alyssa Middleton as 911 Coordinator.
Richardson, Hayes said, has several years of working with Newton County’s first responders through PatientCare EMS and work with the county’s ten rural fire departments.
“He’s been in the county with the ambulance service and doing something with the fire departments,” Hayes said.
Taylor, who announced he would be taking a job as base supervisor with PHI Air Medical Inc’s air medical program in Jackson, will stay on with the county as fire coordinator.
Both Richardson and Middleton will assume their new responsibilities February 18, allowing time for training in their positions before Taylor’s resignation takes effect.
The Board of Supervisors is next scheduled to meet Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Newton County Courthouse.
