Newton County’s School Board met for a brief meeting on Feb. 3 to discuss several business items.
The school district will use Steven Myrick C.P.A., LLC for its annual financial audit for 2019-2020. The district is changing auditors since it has used the same one for the last three years. By law, the district must change its auditors after three years.
Financial reports were approved for December. That showed the district received 36 percent of budgeted revenue while it has spent 42 percent of its budgeted expenses. The district had a cash flow of $1.7 million. Most of the district’s revenues are expected to come in over January and February as most taxes are paid.
The board granted approval to help an elementary music fundraiser. While it didn’t submit it for inclusion in the budget, the board asked that this request be submitted at the beginning of the year to be included in the budget.
Donations to the school district were accepted.
The consent agenda including a facility use agreement and a field trip request was adopted.
The board will move its March meeting to March 2. At that meeting, the board will likely hold an executive session to discuss its superintendent evaluation.
